The Celebrity of Athletes: How Athletes are Marketing Themselves off the Feild

Athletes are one of the most viewed people I have ever seen. From their commercials, their clothing, their shows and their games. Its something about athletes that gets people attention and have raving about them. In order to have these types of images, they have to appeal to their fans first in the profession their in. The fans are their fans because of their style of game or how good they are. When a player does something else, its more of a bonus and it helps their fans connect with them in a different other than their competitive sides. Athletes gets a ton of money especially the veterans and the stars through big contracts but one of the main source of money is endorsements. It has been said that Lebron James received $100 million dollars from Nike before he even played his first game. Athletes are expanding their fame on some many aspects such as Twitter, appearances , and movies. It seems like they can get any job they want outside of sports. It helps out the next generation of athletes because it gives them dreams and motivation to pursue their sport or their job with the same drive that these athletes have. When adversity hits for athletes such as sex scandals and negative publicity, they get criticized a lot from critics, commentators, and from all over the world but with the help of loyal fans and support from them they prevail and overcome.
For example, Kobe Bryant and his sex scandal, people had so much negative things to say about him but when he came back to the court his fans acted as if he never did anything.
I believe an athlete is a role model by choice some of the time and by accident but they also choose the image they want the people to see. In the end, fans don't want their favorite player in trouble, but athletes have a lot of influence on their fans, so they accept them with flaws in all.

Youtube Killed the Video Star. How Artist are Making it Today

Artist today have found new ways to get fans and become popular through things like Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. They have great way of entertaining people through these social medias. The internet give them great alternatives other than a music video or radio station. I have a friend that did a video and posted it on Youtube, and he is marketing it with social media such as Instagram and Twitter. A lot of main stream entertainers such as Drake, Kanye West, and Wale all have used Youtube as a mean to make a music video or promote something their about to come out with. But Independent entertainers have to work twice as hard and have to make a video that's appealing because their not getting funded the money that these main stream artist are.
The artist videos are getting viewed because of the artist are getting people to subscribe to their Youtubes or follow them on Twitter. Its all about marketing, they introduce their self and have to present something that the people want to see or hear. I believe this phenomenon will affect the record companies because its difficult to work with record companies even though they finance you and you can do your way even though you may not reach out to many people. Youtube is great because anyone can be a star overnight with this website and its free. Even though it has its benefits, its definitely destroying the marketing plans because people are taking upon themselves to promote whatever they want on their own, and that takes a lot from the record company. Its saying we don't need your help when it comes to marketing especially when its working. My personal opinion its beneficial and I stand behind 100% because of how difficult it is to get signed by a major record deal. I have even promoted things on Youtube like my highlight tape for basketball without, people would haven't seen me play or get any exposure.

Shouting the News: Cable Anchors a Sharp Contrast to the Walter Cronkite Days

Larry King and Bill O'Reilly are two of the top commentators and are widely known throughout the world. They cover great stories from different places. Their styles are very unique and different, while Larry King is a little friendly, Bill O'Reilly has a hard hitting, aggressive way of interviewing things.

Larry King has a straight, non-confrontational approach. His reputation for asking informal, flexible questions has made him eye-catching to important people who want to let people know their position while avoiding being challenged on certain ideas. His interview style is typically honest, but with occasional screaming of mockery and laughter. His approach gets people on his show that would usually not interview. He is a slick guy he was very calm in the questions he was asking. His guest was Al Pacino and they both stated how they were good friends. Larry King is one of the only people that get Pacino to do an interview. Every question was respectful and they both seemed to be enjoying each other’s company. They were genuinely talking about Pacino career and why doesn't he do interviews often. I thought his style was actually very considerate, he didn't get to personal but asked what people wanted know. The last thing he did was offend Pacino, so he makes a great conservation with Pacino and I'm sure that he would come back and do another interview. He directly asked questions and let Al Pacino justify his answers; the facts were stated by Pacino himself.
Bill O'Reilly has a political and customs approach. O'Reilly is widely considered a conservative commentator, though some of his spots separate from conservative belief. He describes himself as a "traditionalist". He has an aggressive demeanor and every question was just hard hitting. The guest is George Clinton and he's asking questions about taxes and economic growth and more. The issues is presented in a balance way and Bill Clinton have majority of the answers. They have a very solid conversation and it's not any rudeness and disrespect. They mainly were talking about finances and things about economics and the money. O'Reilly has stated that he's not identified with any political ideology, he just attacks the issues. The interview was needed to see ex-president views on the economy changes and issues. Its facts presented but more of an opinion from O'Reilly than Larry King interviews. I learned Bill Reilly views and what he thinks Obama doing to the economy, he’s not in favor of Obama as it seems in this interview.

Reality Television: Real or Unreal

Reality television has taken over the networks especially networks such as MTV and VH1. I have tuned into certain reality television shows such as Jersey Shore, Flavor of Love, and Love and Hip Hop. I wasn’t really that into them but it seems that it has taken the world by storm. Reality television shows are among the top ratings in the United States. For example, Jersey Shore's fourth-season premiere draws 8.8 million viewers. Reality television are not fully legit to me, I feel some of the things are written and they are acting some of the situations out but saying that I think some reality shows are pretty good and capable of watching. I don’t believe that reality television affect people’s behavior because I don’t see or hear their actions being shown or displayed in the public. I do think that people may receive ideas on what to do but I also think they were going to perform those actions with or without the show. The people on these shows are trying to be a fan favorite and trying to get a little stardom while also doing what the show ask, they want people to write and talk about them so not only the show becomes popular but there character. I think the show is reflected from society, for example, Jersey Shore shows Italians partying at the Jersey Shore; this is common; it just shows the lifestyle of the cast and their experiences to viewers. The young people can be influenced by what goes on in the shows especially seeing how much fun there having but everyone have choices and they will have to deal them when the situation appear and that’s how people grow up. Reality television is definitely something to watch because we enjoy seeing people other than ourselves go through different things, not understanding that these are people lives that are being affected. I think eventually reality television will fade out and something new will take its place but in mean time people will still enjoy REALITY TELEVISION.

Remember the newspaper? Take a closer look

 http://www.echo-media.com/samples/DundalkEagle.jpg The Dundalk Eaglehttp://www.jandkautomotive.com/Docs/DundalkEagleLogo.jpg
Dundalk is a community with a lot of features and a lot of support behind it. It was named after the town of Dundalk, Ireland. Dundalk is considered one of the first inner-ring suburbs of Baltimore. The Dundalk Eagle newspaper is very well known in the Dundalk Community and is insight on what’s going on in the community and outside. I believe that the Dundalk Eagle will be around for a long time because it’s so local and the Dundalk community supports everything that goes on around the area. The Dundalk Eagle lets people around the community knows what’s happening and when things are going to happen. It talks about things such as meetings, reunions, scrapbook, Studio North Point, weddings, subscribers, news / features, sports, church news, rec news and talk of the town. Before going to school out Dundalk, I have never received information about Dundalk or never knew anything that was happening in Dundalk, so it’s a paper for local people. For example, it talks about sports and that’s one of the reasons I attended CCBC Dundalk. It helps the players get exposure and gives a lot of people that actually play sports some glory. Possibilities can come from being mentioned in the newspaper such as scholarships, more people attending the games, and more support. I like the Dundalk Eagle because its loyal to their local players and allow people to know what‘s going on with the players at the schools in the area. With the Dundalk Eagle, you get a little recognition and a little fame, no matter the outcome. I think the Dundalk Eagle will stay around for a long time because it backs up the community and the community will back it up. I appreciate it when they help the basketball team and post statistics. I feel like there always for the people to let us know what’s going on around us.

Magazines in the checkout line: Airbrush much?

Magazines show people in different ways, such as the good, the bad, and the ugly. It can turn a good person bad and a bad person good in an instant. It’s no rules to magazines; just get the best stories and the best pictures. I see a magazine in two ways; you can display situations that show happiness and fun, then you can show anger and destruction. For example, I seen a magazine that featured Miley Cyrus and The article is titled “What Happened to Miley Cyrus?! Her Biggest Controversies and Scandals.” The article tells her upbringing and then tells her scandals and controversies. You see Miley Cyrus as a kid smiling which is showing her innocence at the time and then you see her with a devilish look and some revealing clothes. They are realistic pictures taking at some events. The headlines are stating how she shocked the whole world with her performance at the VMA awards. They are positives and negatives because she was talked about through the entire country and was acknowledged for her performance but their considering her performance as a scandal and where did the Disney star go. I wouldn’t say too much diversity was represented.  The difference between gossip and reality is little because all her situations was publicized and actually viewed by millions of people. The other article I looked at was an article featuring Kerry Washington when she was in “Glamorous.” The images you see in this magazine show Washington as brilliant actress because of her hit television show “Scandal.”  The reality in these magazines is scandal does occur and she tells how to deal with scandal through the eyes of television character but she is not known as one with scandal. The headlines show Washington as she help people learn and deal with scandal. In this magazine it doesn’t show gossip but the reality is that scandal is real and even though she plays a character on television, it’s hard to deal with.  The woman in the article is presented as scandalous and controversial but it’s the way they want show their life. Both of these magazines stand because both of them deal with scandal but through different views. I would buy these two magazines because I don’t always believe magazines. The magazine draws people through the drama it displays and learning about certain people’s lives. The advertising is kind of sleazy because in order to sell your magazine you have to degrade a person life. People enjoy reading about these situations and want more. The headlines are fearful because at any time they uncover deep secrets that maybe the people don’t want to get out
